I was bored and gaining weight like nobody's business when Bo suggested that I should take up golf. Really didn't think much of it except that it's a hours long golf and how bad it can be for my skin tone. But when one day, we took Mercy for auto-detailing in Glenmarie, we stumbled upon a warehouse sale next to the autospa. It was Ping's warehouse sale. Excitedly, Bo took me there and chose an iron 7 for me. According to him, I only need an iron 7 to start learning the game. I really didn't think that I would consider playing golf seriously but that iron 7 got me to the driving range that very same day. It was frustrating at first when I thought it was impossible to hit the ball after more than 50 tries. But the excitement came when I finally hit a ball and it nicely landed at 50m. That got me going! Needless to say, golf has became my obsession.
So in the last 6 months, I have been purchasing golf accessories and attire. My second purchase was my Footjoy golf shoe which I thought at RM160 was so cheap in comparison to my pumps and sandals. My excitement mounted when I got a very nice light maroon color golf bag and a matching Boston bag that got me feeling like a true golfer. It was not complete without a golf set to call my own. So after deep thinking and discussion between me & Bo, we decided to get custom-made clubs for me. And off we went to JNG in Kuchai Lama to have my clubs custom made. The pro measured my height against my weight, the length of my hands (and found out that my left hand is longer than my right hand, which interestingly means that it's good for golf), my swing style etc etc. I got half set made, which consists of a 7-wood, 8-iron, 6-iron, a sand wedge, a pitching wedge and a putter for RM2600, it was expensive because I chose Adilla shafts and pink color grip which was kind of scarce. I finally felt like a real golfer!
After numbers of practice at the range, finally last Friday I got to test my lessons and play at the golf course, I must thank Noti for suggesting this to Bo. So last Friday, I woke up excitedly early and looked forward to the 3 hours journey for golf at Pekan, Pahang. We met Sham and Noti halfway in the highway and when we reached Pekan, I was raining cats & dogs. It disappointed me. Rain on my first golf game... Hmmmm... When we reached the golf club at 1.30 pm, it was still raining. We were supposed to tee off at 2 pm. Sitting at the golfers terrace, we were contemplating whether to play at all and I was praying hard that the rain stops soon. Like an answered prayer, it did just before 2 pm. Imagine my joy! So off we went to start our round of golf in a drizzling rain. The weather was quite compromising but the golfer spirit was strong for us to continue our game to the very last hole. I fumbled a lot of times, lost 3 balls in the process which is okay according to my golf mates. Usually a first timer would loss 5-10 balls! Mine went into the water at hole 15, a par 3 with water right in front of the ladies Tee Box. And I still couldn't handle my 7-wood, I guess I have to practice even more on this.
Overall, it was a very good game, with Bo and Noti as my teachers. Bo was so patient with me. The only down-side of the whole thing were A) there was a flight behind us and they moved really fast so I couldn't really take my time and B) the rain came and went and made us wanted to finish the game as soon as possible. I played at 129, which was considered good as usually again, a first timer would probably score 200!
We arrived the Legend Resort after the seafood dinner feeling rather wasted & exhausted. I put my head on the pillow and fell asleep right away. So did everybody else. It's the eve of Mybenz 3rd Anniversary celebration.
