Happy New Year!

Wow! How time flies... It's new year already.

I am sure almost everybody is ready to party the night away. I'm not though. I'm quite sad actually... I'll be spending the New Year's eve alone tonight. Not entirely alone actually, with my cats & dogs. But it's still sad.. pathetic even.

Yesterday while I was at the bank (was there for half a day!), I received a text from a friend asking my permission to bring Bo to Batam Island for boys golf trip. I was torn, whether to let him go or not... After all, it's New Years eve. But this same friend has been asking Bo to go to Batam with him for so many times and Bo refused (because I didn't let him go, selfish of me, right?) But this time, I guess I can just stay home and let him have fun with the boys in Batam.. He's so excited! They are leaving after the business hours today. And only will be back on Sunday... *sigh* Alone on New Year's eve.

On another note, Fuji, my laptop has been infected with a virus from Facebook apparently a couple of days ago. I took it to the service counter in Low Yat today and had it back to normal again.. Costed me RM80 but it's better than getting a new one, right? While at Low Yat, I went browsing at the IT Hypermart and got myself this super cute Berry-Tini from the G-Cube Travel Tini Collection, a set of a mouse, a multiple USB port & a web-cam. Also a new bag for Fuji and a replacement for my camera cover that my uncle lost last October. Boon of the service counter thought I should back up my works in an external hard drive so I got one for that purpose. I know I spent a lot today, but hey... I want some new toys before being left alone tonight and for the next 3 days, right?

While waiting for our car at the valet, Bo made a casual coversation with one of the Security Officers there and he told us that at the recent Christmas' Eve celebration in Bukit Bintang, a young boy barely 16 years old was stabbed to death in front of the Pavillion. He was robbed off his RM10 note in his wallet. He died because of his RM10!

That is why I'd rather spend the New Year's eve at home. Alone...

X Factor

I know we don't get to watch the show here in Malaysia, but since Leona Lewis is a great success, I have been curious to know who's the next X-Factor's winner.

Here she is... Alexandra Burke or Alex. She's 2008's X-Factor winner and judging from the poor quality videos of her in Youtube, I think she's going to be as big as Leona Lewis if not bigger.

She's already became a fast selling female solo artiste. More story on that, click here!

Halo

As soon as I heard that Beyonce and David Cook have come out with their new albums, I rushed to the record store to get them...

I normally don't do music reviews since I don't think I am an expert at that. But, I guess sharing my feelings or rather impressions at these new albums won't hurt us.

Bo & me have been looking forward to the release of David Cook's album. I have been a fan since his days in American Idols. I guess he got my attention when he sang 'Billy Jean' and changed the tune completely that I was not left reminiscing my childhood... but in awe instead. But the new album left Bo disappointed, he said he liked the Idols album better. Maybe because he knows most of the songs, after all they are all other artists' songs. I am giving David a chance, I'm going to listen to all of his songs but not until I am finished with Beyonce.

Beyonce... She's as usual, not a disappointment. She always come up with good tunes and nice lyrics (although sometimes broken grammar)... I'm not an English expert either but the first single title is "If I Were a Boy"... Shouldn't it be 'If I was a boy'? I stand to be corrected here, so anybody knows the right phrase? 'Halo', the second single that has got me hooked. I actually so hooked that I put 12 of the same song in my Ipod playlist so I can listen to it over and over again.

Here's the song 'Halo' I was talking about. Isn't it easy on the ear?

Here's the lyric & video just for fun.. Enjoy!

Remember those walls I built
Well baby they're tumbling down
And they didn't even put up a fight
They didn't even make a sound
I found a way to let you in
But I never really had a doubt
Standing in the light of your halo
I got my angel now

It's like I've been awakened
Every rule I had you breakin'
It's the risk that I'm takin'
I ain't never gonna shut you out

Everywhere I'm looking now
I'm surrounded by your embrace
Baby I can see your halo
You know you're my saving grace
You're everything I need and more
It's written all over your face
Baby I can feel your halo
Pray it won't fade away

I can feel your halo (halo) halo
I can see your halo (halo) halo
I can feel your halo (halo) halo
I can see your halo (halo) halo
Woah...

Hit me like a ray of sun
Burning through my darkest night
You're the only one that I want
Think I'm addicted to your light
I swore I'd never fall again
But this don't even feel like falling
Gravity can't forget
To pull me back to the ground again

Feels like I've been awakened
Every rule I had you breakin'
The risk that I'm takin'
I'm never gonna shut you out

Everywhere I'm looking now
I'm surrounded by your embrace
Baby I can feel your halo
You know you're my saving grace
You're everything I need and more
It's written all over your face
Baby I can feel your halo
Pray it won't fade away

I can feel your halo (halo) halo
I can see your halo (halo) halo
I can feel your halo (halo) halo
I can see your halo (halo) halo
I can feel your halo (halo) halo
I can see your halo (halo)
Halooooo ouuuu
Halooooo ouuuu
Halooooo ouuuu
Ouuuuu ouuuuu ouuuuu

Everywhere I'm looking now
I'm surrounded by your embrace
Baby I can see your halo
You know you're my saving grace
You're everything I need and more
It's written all over your face
Baby I can feel your halo
Pray it won't fade away

I can feel your halo (halo) halo
I can see your halo (halo) halo
I can feel your halo (halo) halo
I can see your halo (halo) halo
I can feel your halo (halo) halo
I can see your halo (halo) halo
I can feel your halo (halo) halo
I can see your halo (halo) halo

Christmas this year

As mentioned hundred of times, I decided not to go back to KK for Christmas this year. I spent it here in Shah Alam. I knew I could go through the holiday without my family just fine.

So Bo & me decided that we go out for Christmas dinner at our favorite French restaurant instead. In the previous years, Christmas eve were always spent with the whole family in my late granddad's house and it'd be the traditional turkey, eggnog, fruit cake, the works and then the adults would be gambling the night away while us kids peeked at our nicely wrapped Christmas presents underneath the Christmas tree secretly counting how many we'd receive that year.

This year though, my Christmas tree is pathetically 1' tall with no present underneath. But at least I have a tree and the Christmas feeling was around.

At our Christmas eve dinner, we had so much to eat... The food was amazing and the champagne was so good that even when we couldn't finish it, I insisted that we took it home. Was thinking that maybe I can save it for New Year.. Of course, I don't think it'll pop again.

I was so drunk that I woke up having a massive headache. I'm still not sure if it's because of the drinking or if it's because I woke up at 1 pm! Then I took my sister to Mel's & Dan's for their family's open house. Though we were late, we still had a late lunch and it was superb! Even more since Dan's whole family members were there and made me miss my family's company back home. Dan & Mel were amazing hosts. We had fun.

But we had to rush out... I had a Christmas golf game with the boys. And I got the best Christmas present ever! I beat them all and won the pool money (which I had to use to pay for dinner I treated them to). But the victory is sweet!

The Shopaholic returns!

It's probably old news but I can't help but blog about the upcoming movie starring Isla Fisher; Confessions of a shopaholic. I know most of us girls have read the books therefore look forward to its arrival in movie form (like most movies are now, they originate from what else...books)

I've always liked the Shopohalic series. I remember waiting anxiously for the release of its sequels. I'd say (like most of the girls), I can relate to the main character of the book Rebecca Bloomwood. You know the urges to shop, the needs to earn more money (so I can shop even more) and the over-the-top usage of the credit cards (which by the way, I always thought as free money until the statement comes in)

Anyway, back to the movie. It was when I went to watch 'Twilight' with my siblings and cousin when I saw the trailer and the poster of the Shopaholic movie. I knew it was in the process of making the movie earlier this year (I received an email from Sophie Kinsella's website telling me about this). But I was too excited about Sex & The City movie to take serious notice on this one. But now that SATC is over and done with, I am so excited about this one and really can't wait until February for its premier.

And then today, while surfing the internet, I stumbled upon a youtube video of the movie's trailer. And I want to share it!

Note: I am a bit disappointed that Becky Bloomwood in the movie is not a British... but look forward to the movie nonetheless...

Seamstress in the making

I am finally getting my new sewing machine today.

After the minor makeover of the girls' room last week, I was overwhelmed with this idea of making my own bed spread, pillow cases, cushion covers, curtains etc etc. I blame it on too much time spent on watching the home makeover shows on TV.

Like what I normally do before making a purchase, I googled Sewing Machines and looked at the ones that are available in Malaysia and choose one that suit my needs the most. After much thought, I decided on a compact one by Singer - it's small & cute and I can just put it in a box and store it away if I don't use it. This is how it looks like..

And I'm going out in a bit to get it, so excited to start a new project... Will blog about it soon!

This is priceless!

He has good reflex? I ponder...

Welcome to www.mimi-ahmad.com

Just to inform my blog readers, I finally switched to my own domain name...

So, you can let go the .blogspot.com part and just type mimi-ahmad.com from today onwards.

I actually don't know anything about web hosting etc etc... All are self learned. So if you guys find something funny comes up, it's just me clicking away links that I hope can teach me one or two things about this stuffs. I know I can do more now that I have my own domain name but it's just that I don't know what are the things that I can do and can't do.

Anybody can teach me about the basics of web design/web hosting or whatever blog related with a minimal fee and on a part time basis? Let me know ya... Quote me your price first, after all it still has to go through my Finance Minister.

Oh! I am also looking for someone who can teach me how to sew... I prefer one to one course, part time basis..

That's a lot of learning to do... But you are never to old to learn new things, right?

Oh what a night!

I had a great time last night!

It's amazing! Apart for Mel & Daniel, it was the first time I met the rest of the Sabahan Bloggers. And already it felt like I've known them long time. Goes to show, how quickly we can warm up to people with mutual interest and similar background.

I've never patronized The Laundry. Didn't know that the food was good and the beer was nice! I actually forgotten about the intention to slim down and ate like there's no tomorrow. Truth is, I am secretly hoping that I could go back there just for the beer one of these days... hehehe

Unfortunately, we had to leave early. Bo wanted to watch some soccer matches on tv in the comfort of our room and I promised him we'd leave early. In fact, we left way past the time we agreed on.

However, I got to meet some beautiful new friends and already looking forward to similar gathering in the future. I got a couple of pictures but there are not that nice to put up... :( I am sure though that Mel, Sheela, Cindy, Chegu Carol & Kadusmama have got more presentable pictures.

Counting down starts now

14 days to Christmas Day, 20 days until New Year comes!

I won't be doing Christmas presents shopping this year, since I decided not to go back to KK for the holidays. I will be spending the holidays here in KL, alone. But that doesn't mean I'll be lonely. I have dinner reservation with Bo on Christmas eve and party invitations on Christmas Day. The only plan I haven't made is for New Year's celebration. I am sure someone will text me for a party somewhere... If that doesn't happen ( :( ) , I'll have some guys over at my place for gambling & drinking session. Save me from the KL traffics and crowds.

Anyway, I also decided that I won't be shopping for Bo's Christmas present so early. He has decided to give me a gift I can't resist... I am so excited! He has decided that I should visit Lucy in London and with that a permission to shop for whatever I want for Christmas, of course with a certain budget. So, I can wait another month to get the presents of my choice, why not?

Naturally, I'm over the moon. And plans are made for my 7 days trip. I'm so excited now that I just have to blog about it. Lucy has already planned on taking me to some of the stores. Let's just hope that I have enough Pound Sterlings for shopping. I can't wait!

So, let's start counting down now... I'll be flying in January. It'll be winter still in London, exactly the weather experience that I want.. since I've experienced Spring, Summer & Fall. It's going to be very cold, I know.. But hey! this will be the perfect time to take out the winter jackets I have stored at the back of my closet. I know one day, I'll be needing them! Got to dig out my London underground map... Hope they are still in readable condition after all these years...

So, as of today, exactly 39 days to my London trip... I already can't sleep out of excitement!
