Since we moved here, I couldn't find any excuse not to hit the club.. literally. I have been playing golf like nobody's business since last week. It started with an invitation to play a social round with a new golf buddy. She called me for a round of golf on Wednesday, since we just knew each other and that was the first time we played together, we decided not to bet. I was glad we didn't because she would have won my money on that day... I feel weak, because she's not only a social golfer, but she's my mom's age! Should've been easier to beat her even on the first hole!
However, my weak feeling didn't last long. Yesterday, I joined the Monthly Medal at our club. As a new member and a new golfer, it was the only second time I joined the monthly medal. And boy, was I nervous! I didn't know what to expect since I heard it was going to be a new system, one that I wasn't familiar with.
My flight mates were two high handicappers - both 24. For men golfers, that's as good as beginner, like you just picked up golf last week! But, we played our game and we enjoyed it tremendously. Especially when I got a single handicapped caddy. This particular caddy is 'to-die-for'.. He's the most wanted among the golfers in the club because he's just good at reading green lines and reading the distance. And I needed the best caddy I could get.
I played 2 under with my 36 handicap, with a birdie and two pars. But I fumbled on all par -5s. Now, that didn't look too good. Because that 4 holes alone, I was already playing 18 over! That's very very frustrating!
Thinking that I wouldn't win anything, I didn't bother checking the scoreboard and went straight to 19th hole to have my dinner and a mug of much needed cold beer. But when I met Bo in there, he told me that I might have a chance to win something. So, we waited. True enough, I won ball sweep and runner up for C medal. I won a tube of golf balls for the Ball Sweep and a RM200 voucher from Jusco for the runner up title. I was ecstatic! And also motivated! Though I didn't win the Matchplay, I don't mind. These wins alone made me want to strive more for Her World Golf Challenge this coming Friday. I now know I can do it ;)
So, wish me luck friends. Because apart from skills, golf is also a game of luck (at least for me!)
